Following undergraduate training in St Andrews and Manchester Universities, Dr Sandy Thomson completed Higher Specialist Training in Geriatric Medicine in the North-Western Deanery. Dr Thomson is a Consultant Physician and Geriatrician at Salford Royal Hospital where he has worked since 2007. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 2011. His main interests are in Parkinson’s disease, delirium, elder abuse and medical education.

Since 2011, he has been Education Lead for the MSc in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Salford, where he is also lead for the Gerontology module. He has worked for the Royal College of Physicians as a PACES examiner and question setter for the Specialist Certificate Examination in Geriatric Medicine. He now chairs the SCE question-writing groups and is a member of the Standard Setting Board.
