Drug recall for Parkinson’s and epilepsy

03 Jul 2019

This week, three drugs used to treat aspects of Parkinson’s and epilepsy were recalled following concerns that the medicines had been improperly stored prior to reaching patients. The drugs in question, Neupro, Vimpat and Clexane with a B & S Healthcare label, have been recalled by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) as a precautionary measure. There is no evidence that the medicines were tampered with or otherwise compromised on their journey to the UK from Italy. The agency note that there is very little likelihood of the drugs not working correctly and request that patients continue to take the medicines until receiving their new prescription, which they must request via their GP. Once in receipt of the replacement medicines, the recalled drugs should be given in to their local pharmacist. The batches of medicines affected are listed on the MHRA website and are specifically:
  • Clexane 8000iu Injection 0.8ml
  • Neupro 4mg/24 hr patches
  • Vimpat 100mg tablets
