Launch of new dementia MasterClasses

As part of the Neurology Academy mission we will be launching a series of Regional Dementia Masterclasses in 2016, backed up with a website resource on the Neurology Academy website.The network conferences will build on a similar model we have developed for Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis. The aim of the meetings will be to bring together clinicians from primary and secondary care, as well as associated organisations involved in the commissioning and delivery of dementia services to provide a specialised educational programme to support improved understanding of how to manage dementia.These meetings will provide a platform for active discussion and exchange of ideas to cope with the challenges we encounter in dementia in a more integrated way. We hope then that delegates will return to their roles inspired by some ideas they have gathered from these events, and to further develop and improve services for their patients though audit.The course will be led by former Parkinson’s Academy graduate Dr Iracema Leroi, Clinical Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant in Psychiatry/Dementia Director DeNDRoN North West and the keynote speaker at the first event will be the National Clinical Director for Dementia Prof Alistair Burn.As part of the programme we will be developing an integrated dementia care pathway that course attendees can adapt for use in their own areas following attendance on the programme.
